Building Information Modelling

BIM; it’s a term that has become an integral part of the construction world. In fact, BIM is the future.

BIM in a nutshell

BIM stands for Building Information Model. In the construction industry, this usually means a 3D model of a building to which all kinds of important information is linked. So you don’t just see a 3D drawing—you also instantly gain insights into the type of materials, their properties, and the dimensions of different elements in the model. You can even check the thickness and volume of a floor and follow the progress of the construction process from A to Z. Additionally, BIM proves to be extremely practical during the operational phase of a building.

Why do we use BIM?

With the help of BIM, we can communicate and collaborate more easily with our construction partners and clients. All information is stored in one place, making it accessible to everyone involved. With BIM, we essentially build a project twice: first virtually and then physically. If everything checks out virtually, we proceed to the actual construction process. This way, we save time and costs and guarantee the highest quality.
The benefits of BIM extend beyond the planning and construction phases. For instance, it’s highly valuable during the operational phase, when the management and maintenance of a building take place.

“This way, we save time and costs and guarantee the highest quality.”

– Robert Pleijsier

Together, faster

BIMming is collaborating.

For us, BIM is the ultimate way to put our motto “Building is collaborating” into practice. Thanks to BIM, that collaboration becomes easier, more efficient, and more powerful. We gain influence over the design, can actively look for solutions, think along, and respond quickly. Creating visualizations, for example, goes much faster and so does decision-making. This enables us to serve our clients even better and deliver the desired results.

Building means BIMming

Using BIM, we ensure consistent information, clarity, and oversight.

A few years ago, we took our first steps by digitizing and automating various processes. In that sense, BIM is not merely a 3D geometric model but truly a process.

It touches all parts of our company and is transforming how we think and work. Internally, we follow various training courses, workshops, and classes to further integrate BIM into our way of working.

OpenBIM

At Pleijsier Bouw, we work with OpenBIM. This is a universal approach for the design, construction, and operation of buildings, based on open software standards and workflows. OpenBIM ensures that different types of software can communicate with each other. This is highly practical, as not everyone involved in the design and construction process uses the same software programs. Thanks to OpenBIM, all parties can choose the software they prefer without compromising information exchange. Do all parties happen to use the same software? Even then, OpenBIM offers advantages: the data always remains accessible to everyone, even if the license for the original software has expired.
